Abstract

This paper presents a new species of Tabebuia (Bignoniaceae) from the Central Brazilian Plateau, probably the smallest in the
genus. Tabebuia coronata Proença & Farias-Singer is distinguised from other species of Tabebuia by the combination of being a cespitose subshrub with unifoliolate leaves, petioles 7-10mm long, inflorescence a congested capitate raceme, subtended by a crown of woody, subulate or obtuse cataphylls, by the subsessile flowers, calyx with conspicuous pateliform glands, corolla
5.2-6cm long, ovary with length/width ratio of 1.5, ovules 8-seriate with 12-15 rows per locule, and fruits that are 10,5-16,5cm long. T. coronata occurrs in rocky cerrados in high-altitude regions of the Distrito Federal and Chapada dos Veadeiros,
Goiás.
