The present study aimed to evaluate the phytotoxic potential of leaf extracts of Fridericia platyphylla (Bignoniaceae) collected under high and low light conditions. Leaves developed under both conditions were analyzed, comparing their specific leaf area (SLA), photosynthetic pigment composition, and effects in a bioassay with wheat (Triticum aestivum) coleoptiles. The results showed that shade leaves exhibited higher SLA, indicating a morphological adaptation to optimize light capture. Spectrophotometric analysis revealed higher concentrations of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and carotenoids in sun leaves, suggesting a photoprotective mechanism against oxidative stress. In the bioassay, extracts from shade leaves reduced coleoptile elongation, indicating the presence of compounds with a slight inhibitory effect, possibly of allelopathic nature. In contrast, extracts from sun leaves exhibited more pronounced effects, which, at certain concentrations, could even stimulate growth. These findings suggest that F. platyphylla exhibits morphophysiological and chemical adaptations to light variations, with potential ecological and allelopathic implications.
