O papel das briófitas nas mudanças climáticas

As briófitas já passaram por inúmeros períodos de mudanças climáticas, e podem talvez nos ajudar a entender melhor tais mudanças. O monitoramento do crescimento e da distribuição das espécies que ocorrem em ambientes mais restritos pode servir como indicador de mudanças climáticas, a simples presença/ausências dessas espécies em determinados locais nos permite acompanhar os limites desses ecossistemas. Aqui são apresentados alguns exemplos de como as briófitas podem contribuir para o entendimento das mudanças climáticas.
