Descreve-se uma nova espécie de Lauraceae para a região neotropical, sudeste do Brasil, estados de São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro. Ocotea koscinskii Baitello & Brotto é espécie unissexuada semelhante a Ocotea dispersa (Nees) Mez, mas difere desta, em especial, pela forma globosa do fruto e ausência de tépalas remanescentes na cúpula e, inflorescência tirsoidepaniculada. Diferem entre si ainda pelas ocorrências em estratos diferentes quando coexistem na Floresta Ombrófila Densa, respectivamente dossel e subbosque.
